James Hong (PhD, Postdoc with Dr. Fehlings, Guest Lecturer) Dr. James Hong is a post-doctoral fellow at the Fehlings laboratory at the Krembil Research Institute, Toronto Western Hospital. His doctoral thesis focused on the transcriptomic profiling of traumatic spinal cord injury. He is the author of 21 peer-reviewed articles in the field, and currently works on the development of cellular and non-invasive therapies for degenerative cervical myelopathy and traumatic cervical spinal cord injury. Winnie Ye (2025)Winnie is currently a second-year undergraduate student studying Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Toronto. She is particularly interested in the intersection of data science and healthcare, with a focus on how machine learning techniques can be adapted to address small-sample challenges in medical imaging.<br /><br />Beyond coursework, she participated in the Women in Data Science Kaggle Competition, where she applied Python-based machine learning techniques to analyze ADHD-related patterns. While the domain was different from medical imaging, the project helped her strengthen her skills in data preprocessing, independent learning, and adapting to unfamiliar tools—all of which are highly transferable to this project.<br /><br />Winnie is also comfortable working with Python and R, and has experience using Jupyter environments with libraries such as matplotlib, plotly, and ipywidgets to create interactive visualizations. She has also recently been familiarizing herself with GitHub for version control and collaboration. Amar Dholakia Amar has spent 2 years at the Tyrrell Lab, one as a work-study student, and another as an independent research student. As a work-study student, he helped maintain, update, and query the Faculty of Medical Imaging's personnel database. His research investigated the viability of using clustering methods to assess the effects of dataset heterogeneity on convolutional neural network performance. Amar will be starting his MSc in Biostatistics at UofT in the Fall of 2020.
