Empowering Indigenous Knowledge: AI in Global Health

In the heart of Costa Rica’s lush forests, Dr. Tyrrell and his team collaborate with the Ngäbe people to explore their rich medicinal plant knowledge. Since 2023, this initiative has evolved beyond research into a meaningful partnership that honors cultural traditions while embracing modern innovation.

At its core is the Pura app, designed to empower the Ngäbe to document and share their heritage. By incorporating real-time feedback, the app adapts to meet the community’s needs, ensuring its relevance and impact. Looking ahead, the project aims to create a sustainable model that blends technology with cultural preservation, ensuring the Ngäbe’s knowledge continues to thrive in the digital age.
